Business Tax

On June 25, 2009, Governor Bredesen signed Public Chapter 530, shifting the administration and collection of business tax from local municipalities and counties to the Department of Revenue.

This change creates a partnership between state and local officials. Beginning with Classification 1 business tax returns to be filed beginning January 1, 2010, business tax returns will now be filed and taxes paid to the Tennessee Department of Revenue.  Businesses will continue to obtain business licenses from the county clerk's office and our office will also continue to issue transient vendor licenses.

Special Note: Tax returns have been revised by the Department of Revenue to reflect changes in the law. Businesses filing paper tax returns must use the new forms provided by Revenue, older versions previously filed with local governments are not acceptable. Also, once state business tax filing begins in 2010, taxpayers must file an electronic tax return online with Revenue if they are required to file sales and use taxes electronically.

As of January 1, 2010 business license will be $15.00.  Checks should be made out to Jim Goodall Wilson County Clerk. Also current tax payments should made out to the Department of Renveue.

* Note - If your business is located within the city limits of Lebanon, Mt. Juliet or Watertown, you must apply for a City Business License also *
